Valentine's Day in Kindergarten
Our room is all full of hearts now....in fact, one comment that I received after redecorating for February was, "Gee, it looks like a box of Sweetheart tarts threw up in here!" Hmmmm!
So, it must be getting close to Valentine's Day!
I will send home a valentine list with your child in their homework on Feb. 6. Part of their homework will be for the CHILDREN to address their valentine cards to their friends. It is great name-writing practice and a super opportunity to use writing in the real world for something that they care about. (Plus, think of all that upper and lowercase letter practice! ya-hoo!) When they return their homework on Friday, Feb. 10, we will have the children deliver their valentines to the valentine boxes of their friends. We will not open our valentines until Valentine's Day, however, so please be sure that no quickly-perishable food items are included with the valentine cards. (Small amounts of candy or gum are fine for this special day.)
I am also looking for a few brave parents to help organize our valentine celebration on Tuesday, the 14th. We will celebrate beginning at 2:30. I would like to have a craft, some games, some treats (perhaps decorate a cupcake?) and of course- time to open and read our valentines from our friends. If you would like to help with our celebration, please let me know. I appreciate your willingness to add to our kindergarten fun!
100- Day Portraits Are A Hoot!
If you have not stopped into our classroom to check out what your child thinks that he or she will look like at 100, you have to do so! They are darling. We did these portraits over a period of three days as a directed drawing...in other words, I took them through the process of how to draw a face step by step, while I drew with them as an example on the white board. The kids did do all of the drawing, coloring, and painting, however. They are amazing pictures! They did such a terrific job that we laminated them. I will use them for our "art show" around Children Of Hope Sunday later in the year...and then I promise I will send them home to you!
Winter Supplies
With the dryness in the air, I wanted to remind you to please send a water bottle with your child. It also perfectly fine to send chapstick, as long as it is kept in your child's backpack and is not shared with others. Please rememeber that medicated cough drops must be signed in with a note to the office...but, simple throat drops like Luden's that are non- medicated may be kept in backpacks in case of dry throat.
