Class Newsletter
Greetings Families!
It is here, May! This school year has passed so quickly! I am so blessed that this was my very first class. I will always think of and love your children with all my heart. It is going to be a very busy month. We have Field Day and Water Day coming up and we still have so much learning to do!
In math, we will continue our unit, learning to measure metric length, mass, and volume. We are working on meters, centimeters, kilometers, meters, kilograms, grams, liters, and milliliters. We will also be working on word problems dealing with measurement. The children are enjoying themselves, working with meter sticks and rulers.
In literacy, we will be reading the stories Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears and Lon Po Po. We will continue learning about more adjectives, articles, making and confirming predictions, summarizing, figurative language, comparing and contrasting, inferences, onomatopoeias, synonyms, and antonyms. We will also be continuing our work in creative writing.
For science we will be finishing up our “Space and Earth” unit by learning about Earth and what makes our earth so special. In social studies, we will continue learning about communities and the people who make communities what they are and where communities are located and why. In Christian Studies, we will finish our unit on Jesus, The Son. We are learning about why Jesus came to Earth and what wonderful works He did here.
Unfortunately, our fieldtrip did not work out last month so, on May 17th, we will be going to Judge Winder’s (Lily’s dad) chambers for a field trip. We will learn about the judicial process in our community. It will be an exciting trip! More information will be coming home about this as it gets closer.
Our monthly project this month is simply a book report. It will be due on Tuesday May 22nd. That is a full three weeks for your child to read their book and do the report. Attached is the information for the book report.
