Homework Helping Link for Literacy
Here is a great link to a website that goes along with our Harcourt Trophies Literacy curriculum http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/2nd/Homework/read/2_home_read.htm. It will support spelling, vocabulary, reading and grammar activities we do in class plus it's really fun! The kids requested I include this as they love using it in class!April Monthly Project
Kid's Choice!
This month students will be able to choose their projects based on their own interests, talents and ideas. Students may choose to work in teams if they would like understanding that they will need to coordinate their time outside of school. Our last presentations will take place May 10th during the first and last hour of the day.
Weekly Homework
Spelling Tests
Spelling tests will be given on Thursdays. The vocabulary words from the previous week will be their challenge words during the spelling test. Students are encouraged to take the challenge. Misspelling a challenge word will not hurt their overall score but getting it right can raise their score.
Skills Worksheets
Students will be given a few sheets which will support spelling, grammar and reading skills taught in the classroom. The first page will have the spelling words for the next week's spelling test.
Bible Study
Each week students should look up their bible verse, discuss it with their family, illustrate what they think God's saying to them and then practice it throughout the week. Bible notations are included for the entire year however students are to only complete the verse for the assigned week.
Reading Logs
Here is a link to a copy of our class reading log. Students are to read at least 100 minutes a week. They keep track of them by coloring in the squares on the grid indicating what type of reading they are doing. Research shows that children benefit from being read to(red), reading alone (yellow)and reading with someone(blue). A balanced approach includes all three.
Homelinks
Math
Homelinks are math worksheets which serve two purposes. One, they reinforce what is taught in class and two, they let you know what we're learning in math.
